Rita Caughman is a shareholder with the law firm of Sojourner Caughman & Thomas, LLC practicing in the areas of estate planning, estate and trust administration, fiduciary litigation and related tax matters. She assists clients in developing and implementing estate plans that address individual needs. Rita also works extensively in the area of planned giving, helping clients in the preparation of charitable trusts, charitable gift annuities and other gift agreements.
Active in her profession and the community, Rita is the Immediate Past State Chair of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. She also serves on the boards of the University of South Carolina Educational Foundation, the South Carolina State Museum Foundation and New Morning Foundation and is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Columbia and a founding member of Women in Philanthropy.
Rita received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina and her and Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law. She has received the Compleat Lawyer Award from the University of South Carolina’s Law School Alumni Association and the YWCA’s Tribute to Women in Industry Diamond Honoree Award.
