Roger Sargent graduated from Purdue University, Indiana State University, University of Minnesota, University of South Carolina, and completed post-doctoral work at Tufts University. His teaching and research activity included areas of Child Health, Public Health Nutrition, Maternal and Child Nutrition, Obesity and Eating Disorders and Research Design, Analysis and Translation. He published more than 100 peer reviewed scientific papers in over 35 different national and international journals, and presented research findings at hundreds of professional meetings, conferences, and conventions.
Mr. Sargent served as Associate Dean and Acting Dean for the College of Health and Associate Dean for the USC School of Public Health. During that period he was the chief architect for the addition of the Department of Exercise Science and the Department of Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior being added to the existing curricula of the USC School of Public Health. He has served on more than 100 Doctoral dissertation committees and has chaired more than 50 dissertation committees. Additionally, he has consulted and lectured for over 26 years at the Hilton Head Health Institute.
Prior Board leadership includes one term as President of the South Carolina Planned Parenthood Affiliate and one term as President of the Southeastern Region of Planned Parenthood Affiliates. Previous Board service includes The National Board of Directors of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Guttmacher Institute, South Carolina Youth Advocacy Council, and Columbia Wellness Council.
Mr. Sargent has been awarded the South Carolina Public Health Association Health Educator of the Year, the South Carolina Public Health Association Research Award, and the Arnold School of Public Health Teacher of the Year.
